Alabama – no room at the inn?

#vanlife .

We planned on staying at the Gulf State Park in Alabama.  The park has great primitive sites and some full service sites on the water.  We only needed a simple site to park Sparty.

When we were checking in the woman behind the counter did not think we could camp on a primitive site without a tent.  She calls “security” and they said no way.  We had to get a costly full utility site.  We don’t even have places to connect water and sewer.

We found a park not to far away to take a bike ride and make dinner.

While finishing up our dinner, a white Ram park truck rolled in. Sure enough we could not camp in that lot.  We knew that.  Then he says we can camp in the state campground!

We explained that they would not let us.  He made a call and said they would take us now.  It’s late and getting dark.  No way we are giving them anything at this point.  Walmart parking lots are much more welcoming.
