Echoes

#vanlife .

The house is nearly empty and every room echoes. It of course has the echoes of sounds but they also have the echoes of days gone by.

I can hear the snoring of many nights of good sleep in the bedrooms. In the living room (or parlor as I call it) there are sounds of many nights by the fire, of Christmas mornings filled with fun and quiet evenings reading.

The den has a mix of sounds. It was once our bedroom so there is plenty of snoring. Once we finished the upstairs there is laughter and many nights of TV entertainment. When we added a surround sound system paintings on the wall rattled.

The dining room too was another multipurpose room. It started as our den with sounds of evening TV shows and movies on our VCR. It then became the nursery with giggles, cries and laughter. Finally becoming a dining room with many holiday gatherings and a few discussions that became a bit too heated.

Teenage talk and laughter from gatherings and parties in the cellar and talk and cheers from cookouts in the yard – all the memories echoing in my head.

Soon the rooms will be filled again and the echoes in them will be gone. Yet the echoes in my head remain.
