Taking the long way to Pittsburgh.

Places to Stay

Indian Rock Campground

Pine Grove - smaller campground with some ok sites.

Calendonia - bigger campground on a hill, lots of sites with little privacy.

Michaux State Forest - supposedly free sites but you need to find the forest office and get a permit.  Note that the Pine Grove and Calendonia Campgrounds are state parks in the Michaux Forest.  The forest is run by a different group from the parks.

Ohiopyle - after making our way up to the camp site from the falls, we were told we could not stay because they were doing work on the the site.  Yet while we were at the ofice other people drove in and we're staying there.

Outflow -an interesting campground run by the Army Corps of Engineers.

Pittsburgh - Fairfield Inn and Suites. Sometimes you need a place with a shower you do not need to hold a button in to get water.

Things to do in Pittsburgh

The Alter of Beer - Stop by the Church Brewery

Carnegie Natural History Museum - Lots and lots of Dinosaur bones.

Things to do

Great Allegheny Bike Trail - its packed dirt and stone but a great ride.  We jumped on it from the Outflow Campground.  It connects to the C&O Canal Towpath and you can ride all the way to DC.

We stopped at the Confluence Cyclery and picked up a card for Sunshine Luggage Shuttle.  If you are interested in Riding the C&O and the Allegheny but do not to carry your gear, Sunshine will do that for you if you call 814.279.5333.

Carnegie Natural History Museum - Lots and lots of Dinosaur bones.
