- A place to do Laundry
- A solid Wifi Connection
- A TV (we have no TV in our van)
- A place with AC or heat if the weather gets too extreme
What we are looking for
Hotel rooms, condos, RV, a tent or something else. Choosing how you travel is the first step. However it does not need to be a one time decision.
We have settled into a 12 days of camping – 2 days of hotel. The hotel stay lets us catch up on things. And then every once in while we rent a place for week or even a month.
Things to note when you check in
The smell
Bed sheets
Smoke detector
Fridge cold
Our Thoughts on Hotel Chains
I am listening them in the order of usual cost from highest to lowest
Marriott – these are often the ones we choose when we want more of vacation experience. The Fairfield and Springhill brands are a great experience especially when there is an indoor pool and jacuzzi. These are also the most expensive.
Hampton Inn – This Hilton brand used to be one of my go to hotels when I was traveling for business. They are good but usually cost more than Holiday In Express or Best Western for only slightly better accommodations.
Holiday Inn Express – This IHG brand offers good value and experience. We stay these from time to time.
Best Western – These hotels usually offer some the best value and experience. There are some that do not offer free breakfast.
Choice Hotels – We have stayed in a couple of their Comfort Suites and have been impressed. Maybe just a notch below best western but definitely a good value.
Wyndham – There are some good ones in this chain but there is much more variability. The Baymonts we have stayed in have been ok but older and it showed. The one Wingate we stayed at was good. Trip advisor reviews of other brands in their portfolio have not been encouraging.
