Anyone who has been following along knows that it is hard for us to pass up anything that includes”largest” in the name. But Wichita Falls had a skyscaper billed as the littlest.
And occasionally we do stop for something small.
As we headed into downtown Wichita Falls we were trying to guess which of the buildings we saw was it. Every guess was wrong.
When Google said we had arrived we found a small antique store… And the littlest skyscraper behind it.
My first thought was, “Why would anyone build this?” The answer of course is money.
More specifically Mr J D McMahon conned his financial backers into thinking they were getting a massive, towering building.
None of those backers could read the drawings that clearly showed dimensions in inches rather than feet.
The backers sued but Mr McMahon had signed documents stating what he would build and he done just that.
He had legally swindled his financial backers out of $200k.
The moral of the story? Understand anything you sign.
