It’s Tomato Time – The Produce Clock

#vanlife .

We all live by the clock.  Whether its an old style wind-up alarm clock, our cell phones or the rising and setting of the sun, our lives are tied to it.  So when we noticed a Clock for Produce in Charlotte, we had to stop by.

The arm goes around the large clock once a year and points to the produce that is in season.  We expected to buy whatever it was pointing to when we got there.  When we stopped it was pointing to tomatoes.

The first door we went to said it was an employee entrance.  We moved to what appeared to be the main entrance only to find a space that was being renovated.  The man inside said the freshlist entrance was by the loading dock.

We were confused.  We had assumed a produce clock would be on the side a market and were ready to buy whatever it pointed to.

When we went around the side, the first person we met was Criss.  She had a Ram Promaster that had us reminiscing about our old van Sparty.  She was with The Bulb, a company connecting produce to those who struggle getting it.

Next we meet Caroline with freshlist, the Produce Clock’s sponsor.  Sadly she told us they are not a traditional market.  Their food is ordered online and delivered.  Still she did have a couple of extra tomatoes for us.  And they tasted like real tomatoes, not like the ones you get a traditional market.

After enjoying our tomatoes, it was time for a drink. We headed north looking for a winery…
