In our travels we have found many people with different accents. Some learned English as a second language like our Spanish teacher while others grew up in Alabama. And we know we have our own speaking quirks. Just ask Mr Ram where to park a car at Harvard.
What I did not expect was that birds would have accents as well. The first bird that I noticed that just didn’t sound quite right was a mourning dove in Montana. Their coo was not the same as in New England.
However the most obvious birds with an accent are crows. In New England they have a definite ‘Caw Caw’. In Florida they say ‘Ha Ha’. Really, I’m not kidding. They are not just laughing at Mr. Ram’s golfing – they really do say ‘Ha Ha’.
In Georgia they sound like they are saying ‘Geor-gia’ so they must like their home state.
In South Carolina we could hear the crows around our campsite. I figured they must all meet here for vacation because we heard ‘Caw Caw’, ‘Geor-gia’, and ‘Ha Ha’.
I guess it makes sense. We have accents why not the birds and maybe that deer in your backyard speaks with a Michigan accent! I just never thought about it before.

Mr Ram – I still think they are laughing at my golf swing.
