Anyone who has been following along knows that at some point during the year we end up in Sedona. One of the things we really enjoy here is the hiking and we have been out on a number of trails.
Our hike up Boynton Canyon proved to be one of the most eventful here. Arriving at 8:30 am we snagged one of the last spots in the parking lot. Shortly after starting our hike we passed a sign that says we were entering the wilderness. One would expect to be far away from all things civilized. Yet you are hiking next to a large development called the Enchantment Resort. After nearly two miles you finally reach the end of the resort and really enter the wilderness.
We opted for the less traveled route up to the Subway Cave and the ruins on the cliff. The trail is not marked so following the Alltrails map and directions from fellow hikes was key to finding the trail.
There were some steep sections that reminded us of the Schaefer Shuffle but we both clambered up and down without a problem. Once we reached an area of more “normal hiking, that when Mrs Ram lost her footing and fell backwards. Her head landed on a fallen log. Mrs Ram was swearing at the top of her lungs…and that’s a good things. Passing out out and not saying anything is way worse.
Mr Ram immediately got out an ice pack for the bump on her head. As we sat there a passing hiker asked it we were ok. Mrs Ram mentioned that she had taken a spill but had an ice pack on the bump. He then asks if she were bleeding. When she removed the ice pack it was covered with blood.
A handy bandana became a bandage and we headed for the van.
When we were hiking in, it seemed annoying that the wilderness was right next to a resort. Now the resort was a plus. Once we got the edge of the resort, a guest let us in and the resort sent a golf cart and medic to check on Mrs Ram. After a a check of here stability and eyes and answering a few questions (“Do you know what time it is?” “What is your name?”, “What is your favorite color?”) they drove us to our van on the other side of the resort.
Then we were off the the ER and the usual few hour wait. A couple of staples kept Mrs Rams brains from leaking out and we were on our way.
