Last year when we passed through Texas, the George H W Bush Presidential library was closed due to Covid. This year we were able to stop in and received the senior discount too.
We remembered some things about President Bush. We knew he had been shot down in World War 2, had been CIA Director and had led the liberation of Kuwait.
Kuwait gave the USA and President Bush a door to show their gratitude.
We also knew Mrs Bush was as classy as any first lady and that she loved her blue dress and pearls.
Now we are not surprised that there is video of just about anything that happens any where now. But in the 1940’s it was likely that most things were not caught on video. Yet when naval aviator George Bush was being rescued after being shot down, the sub had someone with a camera.
He headed west with Barbara and baby George W in his first new car at cost of just over 1,500 dollars.

Heading the Republican national committee an being the ambassador to the UN paved the way for him to become vice president under President Reagan and then President.
