When we decide its time to escape the ice and snow of winter, we like to get far enough south on the first day so that we don need to worry about freezing temps. Some years that may be New Jersey. This past year we needed to be in North Carolina. We rolled into our camp site at Medoc Mountain well after dark. It was a great place and we ended up staying two nights.
The camp hosts were full time RVers who had a big pickup truck and a fifth wheel trailer. We enjoyed talking to them when we checked in the next morning. They suggested that we stay at Santee State Park for our next stop. It was a beautiful spot with a large lake and hiking trails.
We stayed at Santee for two nights which was one night longer than we should have. We awoke to sub freezing temps. It was warm in our van though because we had a small electric heater and a place to plug in.
We were glad we bypassed the Lumberton KOA. You could see the entire campgrounds as we drove by at 70 mph on 95.
