Though the other state parks on our itinerary indicated that they were full, nearly half of the sites at the Huntsville State Park were available. A local suggested a nearby state prison might deter some.
We drove the campground and realized that there only a few sites available with water access and many of those were not very level. We chose site 145 which gave us access ti the water to launch our kayaks. The parking area was flatter than some others but we even backed to the top of our levelers we were still pitched to the back. Still the view from our site made up for that.
Being able to put in from our campsite made it a great place to train for Antelope Canyon. It took a little more than an hour a half to paddle most of the lake.
After a quick lunch we went for a half hour hike wearing our kayaking sandals. Going out we tried it without socks. Coming back we wore our socks. It may look dorky but socks with sandals was better.
Back into our Kayaks we simulated our return trip. The people containment barrier stopped us from heading too far into alligator branch. We did see two Gators staring at us though. That is when we decided we had enough fun on the water for the day.
In the evening we had ring side seats to watch a heron hunting for his dinner.
