We were going to stop at the Indiana Dunes State Campgrounds but there was a 20 minute traffic back up to get in and the cost was over $35 for the night so we decided to go to the Indiana Dunes National Campground – Dunewood Campground.
We settled in and caught up on some reading and cooked pork chops, potatoes and canned peas for dinner. After dinner we went for a walk and ran into some great people from Chicago and one from Texas They were traveling in Volkswagen Westfalias from the early 80s. John’s was named Trudy because his wife thought it was an intruder in the garage and Allison and Joes was named Gus.
We swapped stories about different trips taken such as their trips to Louisiana and Alaska and about how we met our spouses.
Meeting people along the way is one of the enjoyable things of being full time on the road.
The next morning we took a bike ride out to see the seashore and saw the historic district with houses from the 1933-34 Chicago Worlds Fair. With the heat wave coming we were glad we would be staying with friends in the following night.
