Driving south from Louisville we saw signs for Lincoln’s birthday place in Sinking Springs. We stopped to find a large monument with his “birth house” inside.
Though Sinking Springs is where he was born, they have determined it was not his house. The house is typical of what he would have lived in but it’s too new to be his.
When he was 2 years old his family was forced to move because of a dispute of the title to the land. His family settled in Knob Creek, KY where they lived until he was 8. After another land dispute they left Kentucky and moved to Illinois, the state that finally claimed him.
