When we are camping, one coffee press full of coffee is usually enough. However wandering around Key West, we found our energy levels start to ebb. The aroma of coffee near the Tennessee Williams House easily drew us in. There were several people already sipping coffee and eating or waiting for food at the Key West Cuban Coffee Shop. A couple of them told us we had found the best place for both in Key West.
Stepping inside the tiny store, we ordered a cappuccino and a mochachino. Mr. Ram spied a skinny doorway to another, larger air conditioned space. Carolina, the owner, was working in the nearly-completed restaurant space. When we asked if we could pull up a chair at one of the new tables, she said sure.
We started to have a conversation with her because that’s what we do. Carolina had worked for other restaurants for many years and had always dreamed of having her own place. Several years ago she had the chance to open her coffee shop in that small space that we had started in.
We talked about starting and running a business as we had had a business years ago. She was very excited about her existing coffee shop and her expansion into that larger space. Surrounded by new pots and pans she was very animated about creating a great restaurant. We are looking forward to stopping back in the near future to eat at her new restaurant.
If you’re in Key West please stop by and enjoy her wonderful Key West Cuban Coffee.
