Luckenbach, TX, established in 1849, had a good run but by 1970 its run was done. The town was sold to three Texans who reimagined it as a western frontier town with a variety of festivals and daily music.
Luckenbach‘s mention in the song “Back to the Basics of Love” led to Mr Rams desire to stop by.
We stopped on Christmas tree lighting day and enjoyed listening to the band while having a beer.
Rusty the Rooster took the stage and stole the show for a bit. He was soon corralled and the official show went on.
The presence of Santa and Mrs Santa brought out lots of kids. Santa used the dance hall for most of his photos so we were not able to get any two stepping in.
Cowboy church was the following morning at 9 am. We missed church but heard the pastor looked a lot like Santa.
As for that Population 3, I could not get a clear answer from anyone I asked. Nobody actually lives in Luckenbach. I suspect it might be a tribute to the three that saved the town. All of us that stop by for a drink and to play or hear a song are grateful they did.
Why did the population leave?
