Create Your Own Visited States Map
Several people have suggested we add a map showing where we have been. We pondered at what point this map should start and what “rules” we should use for deciding if we had been to a state. Does the clock start on the day we were born or at a different time. Do we need to have visited the states together so we can it check it off? Does Sparty need to have been there with us?
After a few minutes of really intense thinking,..ok we were drinking coffee and staring out the window…We decided a good starting point was when we first decided to sell our house. That was sitting on the lanai of a rented condo in Hawaii for our 25th wedding anniversary. Sparty was not with us but it it seems like a logical starting point. For every other state on the map, Sparty has been our trusted companion.
Looking at the map it seems our goal for this year should be to visit those states that are currently not checked off. Driving across southern Canada would let us tag those missing northern states. Once we reach the west coast we can turn south visiting Washington, Oregon and California. Then we pass through Oklahoma on the way back east. That would leave us with just two states left: Alaska and Vermont.
However a bottle of wine and some out-of-the-box* thinking got us to consider Europe or the South Pacific for this year instead. If that is what we do, I will need more maps.

* Sorry Sparty but they make plane seats too small for you.
I would also like to thank 2 Hearts & 2 Wheels for having a link on their website showing where I could get one of these maps.
Always happy to help! Safe travels and see ya down the road somewhere.
