From Quannah we stopped by to visit out Model A Friends who live on a farm outside of Dallas. Ever since Glacier they have told us to stop by for a shower. How could we pass that up?
We had originally been thinking we would have quick visit, catch up on things, have a bottle of wine, a shower and we would be on our way. However one bottle let to another and a very enjoyable evening. And we did get that shower too.
The next day felt like an episode of How Its Made. Pam and Dan’s neighbors had trees that they needed to make into boards. Most of us, when we need a board just stop by Home Depot and pick out the ones that we need. These industrious folks make there own.
We headed over to a neighbors, taking a front end loader and ATVs.
(Imagine you are now hearing the “How Its Made” voice)
The log is loaded onto the portable milling machine using a front end loader.
The gas powered blade is run through the log to square the side. The log is then rotated manually to reposition it so each side can be squared.
Once the log has been squared, the gas powered blade is pushed through at regular intervals set by the operator to make the boards.
Mr Ram got a chance to participate in this “episode” of How Its Made. You can see the video here.
It was fun to know how this is done and get a chance to help. However when Mr Ram needs some boards he we still most likely stop by Home Depot for them rather than make them himself.
