With rain pouring down in Corpus Christi, we stopped at a mall to take a break. After a dry walk we headed to B&Js Pizza and Brew Pub, ordered beer and sat at the bar. Mrs Ram noticed that the woman next to us had a shirt with Fenway Park on it. Could we have bumped into another Mass…all this far away from New England?
No. But Stacy was a Red Sox fan and we ended up sitting with her and her friends, chatting and drinking.
We did learn that she was in one of those dreaded mixed marriages – she was married to a Yankees fan. Mike was a great guy and everyone gets along just fine, except when the teams are playing each other.
After a number of enjoyable Pecan Pie Porters, it seemed unlikely that we would make it to our free campsite at the Labonte Park. Our new friends offered their driveway but even driving that distance was probably too much for Mr Ram. The bartender, already knowing how much Mr Ram had, said it would be fine if we did the responsible thing and left our vehicle in their parking lot overnight rather than drive home. No driving for us – we’ll just walk home.
The next morning we discovered we were only a mile from the only Dunkin’ Donuts in Corpus Christi. The coffee was good but the service was much slower than we are used to in New England. I can’t remember ever being at a Dunkin were we had to wait for a pot of coffee to brew.
