Traffic – one of the big fears of our stay – was not bad in most of the park. However as we approached any of the big attractions, cars entering the parking lot would back up out onto the road.
For our second attempt at Old Faithful we decided to brave the parking lot traffic – at 8 in the morning. Up at 6 am and off we go. It’s over an hour drive from our camp site – Yellowstone is HUGE.
As we roll into the parking lot, there are a few scattered cars, trucks and RVs. We parked near a VW bus from the mid 80s- surprising how many of those there are. We chatted with them for a few minutes about common issues us van dwellers have like finding a good place to shower
As we finished our coffee we realized we were parked right in front of Old Faithful. We wandered over wondering when it would blow just as its started its”tell”. A few minutes later it was done.
I hate to say I was unimpressed. The ones we had seen before were more powerful and more interesting. But no trip to Yellowstone is complete without seeing Old Faithful. Add a trip to the visitor center to stamp our book and use the restrooms and we were off.
At 9 am we were rolling out of the parking lot.
