The Paducah Art District was once a run down forgotten area. At the Terra Cottage Ceramics we learned that abandoned houses in this area had been sold for only a few dollars to artists who were willing and able to rehab them. As we wandered around we saw many interesting and well kept houses. Sadly most of the shops we walked by were closed on our Sunday afternoon visit.
One of the few shops that appeared open was the Stornoway House Gallery and Pottery Place. There were racks of interesting clothes and a few tables of dishes and other items on the sidewalk. I suggested that Mrs Ram pick out a dress and be one of the best dressed at Wal-Mart or in any campground.
As we talked to Carolyn we learned that her shop had closed after her husbands death. However after chatting for a while she opened her somewhat cluttered shop to let us glimpse her engraved pottery and her husband Wil MacKay’s paintings.
Her friend was a Native American finger weaver, something I had never heard of. However Mrs Ram had and she was impressed.
We left Paducah intrigued by what might be in the other shops. Next time we will stop by when more shops are open.
