The weather in this state attracts snowbirds, also low taxes, happy hour and early bird specials. Just watch out for Florida Man.
St. Augustine
We suggest renting a nice condo here. There are several great companies to rent from such as A1A Realty, Coastal and May Realty and Resort. We would suggest that you avoid Vacation Rental Pros (now rebranded as VTrips) as they cancelled our reservation a month before our planned trip several years ago and did not provide any assistance on finding an alternate place to stay.
Tampa Bay Area
St Petersburg – First night for New Years. Was surprised how much free street parking there was.
Orlando
A must stop location if you have kids or you are one! Though I have no choice but to grow older I refuse to grow up!
Central FL – Ocala National Forest
There are a number of places to camp. Big Bass ($12) and 3Nut (free but no amenities) are two we have considered but not visited.
Ocala Horse Park has many events including Cowboy Mounted Shooting, High School Rodeo (the 2 Mrs. Ram Likes) also a good sized RV Show/Sale in February.
Panhandle
St Andrews State Park – This campground is located across the bay from Panama City. We camped here in mid December on a fairly level site site (98) right on the water. All of the sites here have water and electric and cost $31. Showers were free and had plenty of hot water but they close the one closes to us at 7am – just when you want to use it.
Destin Condos – Talked with Mary at Sea Oats about some affordable monthly rentals ($1,020). There were aspects we did not like but they were very affordable.
The Forgotten Coast – Apalachicola has lots of interesting restaurants and shops. PlenAir in May.
South Walton – A collection of planned towns along the coast that do have biking and hiking trails.
