For many, Poverty Point is a destination spot in Northeast Louisiana. It is a world Heritage Site celebrating the ancestral natives that inhabited the area thousands of years ago. There are mounds as high as 72′ that contained housing – they are not burial sites. They have discovered numerous artifacts from these people.
Yet these people abandoned the site around 1,100 BC. Others occupied the site after them but only for short periods.
In addition to the historical significance of the site, there is state park offering boating, fishing biking and and hiking.
Yet for us this place really had one purpose – a flat spot to park overnight … and a shower for Mrs Ram. Ok, I guess that makes two purposes. From Vicksburg we were on the fast track back to Florida so that Mrs Ram could submit her latest painting.
So we enjoyed our overnight stay and headed out in the early morning. Someday we will return to experience of the other attributes of this enjoyable spot.
