After hiking in El Malpais, we were starting to get hungry. We had stopped at the Cocina Comacho in Grant, NM a few years ago and had a great breakfast. When Mrs Ram scanned the map for a restaurant, it was afternoon so a brewery sounded more appealing than a breakfast place.
We expected the Route 66 Junkyard Brewery to be located in old Junkyard and it was. What we did not expect was that its was still a working Junkyard.
Inside we found shelves of parts for sale.
The tables inside were old tail gates and hoods and they had some interesting vehicles in the open shop area.
It was not very busy when we there so the owner, Henry, took some time to chat with us. We learned he had retired from the Air Force and bought the junkyard. The junkyard by itself was not as profitable as he had hoped so he thought adding a brew pub might be a good addition.
Being at a working junkyard did make lunch more interesting. While we were eating a man came in looking for a part for his Grand Cherokee.
We had opted for an Alien Stout with our lunch, which is made by a friend of Henry’s. It was so good we had seconds.
Having a third one was appealing but we still had a lot of miles to cover to get to our free camping spot in San Jon NM.
