Mrs Ram had finished her shower at the Elephant Butte campground and was heading to our van Sparty. That is when she saw Roy standing with his hands up in the air.
She wondered out loud if she should be pointing a finger at his back and asking for his wallet. Like many of our chance encounters, this led to some great conversation.
When Mr Ram finally finished showering Mrs Ram and Roy were deep into swapping tales of living on the road and crazy things they have done.
Like many nomads, Roy’s life had a unexpected shift when his wife left him just before retirement. His solution? Hit the road in his small car. When he picked up a traveling companion, she insisted on more space so they upgraded to a small van.
Roy was enthusiastic about travel, staying places where he did not need to pay and driving into the forest on roads that others thought required 4 wheel drive. That sounded a lot like the first three years of the Rams on the road.
And it was no surprise when Roy said he already had a buzz on from something he had been smoking. It was about 9 in the morning. Of course Mr Ram shouldn’t comment on that. He had been heard saying, “You can’t drink all day if you don’t start early.”
