Heading to Key West from St Augustine seemed like too far to go in one day. We had stopped at the Hollywood Broadwalk to stretch our legs and then needed a place to spend the night.
Checking our camping apps we came up with very few appealing spots. Campgrounds were either unavailable or too expensive. Walmarts were listed as not allowing overnight parking.
One of the few places was the Miccosukee – Resort & Gaming. We called ahead and they said we could stay but needed to check in with security. We arrived just after sunset. To check in we went to the security desk inside the casino next to the cashier. The sign said masks were not required so we did not put one on when we entered. However nearly everyone there was wearing one so we donned ours.
We had a very quiet night and slept till after sunrise. Not wanting to make breakfast we thought we might hit the casino buffet. The buffet was unfortunately still on hold due to Covid.
We found a small French Bakery not too far from the casino. We had thought we would be greeted with “Bonjour” at the counter. Hey, this is Miami so it was “Hola.” After a croissant, eggs and cappuccino, we were off to the Keys.
