As I started to look at possible routes west I noticed an unexpected oddity close to us. It was labeled Space Shuttle External Fuel Tank.
We had no choice but to check it out.
It’s big, dwarfing our van Sparty.
And for something stored in an open field with 24 hour free access, it has surprisingly lillte graffiti. Notice I did not say none.
It was one of the original tanks and was last on display at the Kennedy Space center in 2013. It was supposed to be relocated to the Wings of Dreams Museum. That museum is now listed as permanently closed.
So what was once state of the art space technology is now easily accessible to all, sitting in field slowly decaying.
