Heading towards Kelowna, we stopped in Golden, BC for second breakfast at the Big Bend Cafe. We walked to the town’s covered bridge and strolled the shops.
The town’s Wednesday Night Concert of the Nick La Riviere Band had already been moved indoors to the Civic center because of the cold and rain. We considered staying for the concert but were hoping to reach Kelowna and better weather by the end of the day.
As we got on the highway, a sign said the highway was closed about an hour ahead. There are no other roads that go west so we hoped it would be open by the time we got there.
It wasn’t.
For us stopping in the highway is not a big deal. Turn the key off and its just like camping. We had a snack and caught up on our reading. Others were out taking a walk and playing catch.
After a couple of hours stopped on the highway the decision to leave Golden seemed less desirable.
When we saw cars going the other way we thought we might be free. Nearly a half hour more passed before we started moving.
Three hours parked on the freeway meant we were not going to make Kelowna. Our next stop would be Revelstoke.
