The Smallest Church – Townsend GA

#vanlife .

We have stopped at lots of places for large thing like legs, coins and a kokopeli.  We even visited a very large church in Spain.  But we rarely find very many small attractions.  And we did not expect to stumble across anything interesting on a route we have traveled many times, I-95 between Jacksonville FL and Savannah GA.

Yet there it was on the map, claiming to be the Smallest Church. Driving up to it from the south on US17 we passed a full size Baptist Church and there it was.

We passed the sign and entered the dirt parking area, past the picnic bench and statues of Jesus and St Francis, and parked next a Ford Fusion.  We would not be alone visiting this church.

Mrs Ram did note that the potted plant behind Jesus was commonly known as a Wandering Jew.  Though Jesus, a Jewish man, traveled some, he did not wander far.  However his message did.

We entered and spoke briefly with a local man who stopped there regularly.  For him it was a quiet spot that he could pray.  Fortunately there were almost a dozen chairs in side.  The beautiful stain glass was inspiring and many people appeared to used the bible on the altar and had left notes.

After saying our own prayers we journeyed on feeling better than when we had arrived.
