This BLM Recreation area is in the middle of a few thousand year old, 44 mile long, 5 mile wide lava flow. The hiking trail brings you down into the flow where you can see the volcanic rocks and vegetation you close.
Mr Ram knew none of this when he added it to the route. It was just an inexpensive place to camp on the way to White Sands.
Despite being cheap it was a great spot. Our site was on a hill surrounded by the lava field. It did not have power but did have a shelter and picnic table.
The big surprise for us here was showers. A hike in the lava, staying overnight, flush toilets and hot showers for only $12. Another great stop.
