It is with some trepidation that we approach one of the most well know and heavily visited parks in the US. There are stories of long lines to get in, bumper to bumper traffic, idiots jamming on their brakes to snap a photo, people trying too feed and get selfies with bears…the list of stupidity is long.
Add to that the fact that many first come campgrounds are full before 10 am, some as early as 7 am.
I had initially thought we could move from one campground to another as we visited sites in the park. Online comments dissuaded me from that. Consensus was get a campsite either inside or outside the park and travel to all of the attractions.
So we are set to camp near Red Lodge, then a day for the Bear Tooth Highway, a free campsite near Cooke City and then an early run in to Tower Falls Campground. We expect to get to Tower Falls at 7 am So we should get a camp site.
With our base secure we can spend a week or two seeing the park.
