They say everything in Texas is bigger. That rabbit in Big Bend was normal size. However he may have hopped the border and not be an actual Texas rabbit.

Standing over 6′ tall, he commemorates the era of rabbit roping. This “hare-brained idea” was a publicity stunt during the 1932 Rodeo. Grace Hendricks beat numerous men to win in 5 seconds flat.
The event was revived in 1977 and was almost thwarted when activist set all the rabbits free. The rabbits returned for their next meal and the contest went on as planned.
1978 saw the end of rabbit roping with a court order.
