This year we decided to go to Antelope Canyon. The canyon is located on Navajo Land and they require you to take an $80 tour to see the canyon. (And as of right now that option is closed do to covid)
However there is a loophole. If you enter from the waterside, there is no fee. No fee sounded perfect for us.
Of course you do need to kayak to the canyon through a section of lake Powell that motor boats enjoy cruising through. I have read that the wakes will make you feel like you are kayaking in the ocean.
After an hour and a half of kayaking you can hike an hour or more and enjoy the canyon.
Then you get to hike back to your kayak and paddle back to the landing.
Kayaking for three hours sounded doable. Mr Ram had exercises to help his hip feel better on long trips in the kayak. And the pandemic had afforded plenty of time for kayaking.
But Florida had left the Rams hiking skills lacking. Remember the high point of Florida is only 345 ft. And most hikes nearby had an elevation of only 8ft. They would need a number of hikes to prepere for this.
Then there was the question of where to stay. Lone Rock Beach required no reservations. But camping in the sand with no shade on a hot day did not sound appealing. Waheap Campground had spots available so we made a reservation there.
Now hope for continued covid vaccinations, good weather and no motor boats the day we are there.
