Mr. Ram found a great rest spot for us. We had enough traveling for the moment and ‘Sparty’ had become a bit small for the two of us so he found a cabin at the Metcalf Ranch Big Timber, MT for us to stay at and have some space between us.
It is a nice log cabin with a terrific front porch but most important it has AC, a bathroom and a shower! It does get tiresome to have to hike to the bathroom in the dark in the middle of the night and many of the sites we stay at have no shower facilities. I don’t mind hand washing but my hair gets gross! We do have a ‘camp shower’ but I don’t think it will wash out shampoo very well so I have not used it yet. I will need to try it and let you know how it really works.
The cabin doesn’t have a kitchen but it does have a 2 burner hot plate, a sink, microwave, mini refrigerator and a larger medium refrigerator on the porch, and a new portable convection oven. There is also a propane smoker/grill outside.
This is a working ranch so the owners have lots to do. Their cute sheepdog ‘Dilla’ is often around to keep us company. There are 7 horses and 2 cows in the upper field as well.
Susan and I went for a trail ride and, though hot, it was pleasant. I was also able to be part of a cattle drive rather than just in it as we were here.
Mr. Ram has managed to take a bike ride on the gravel road but he finds he can’t go as far because it is just harder to move.
Dilla showed us the swimming hole in the creek and we went swimming the other day in the pristine water. It was cold but fun.
There are plenty of deer around to watch and the front porch stays cool even when it’s pretty hot out.
The porch ceiling is being completed and a blue bird is nesting in one of the openings. I need to tell Susan about this so they don’t accidentally close her off from her nest.
Phone signal isn’t so great. Mr. Ram just came back from a short hike to make a phone call but they do have WiFi and ‘dish’ for TV.
Susan writes for the Big Timber Pioneer, is on the school committee, helps with the grandkids who live up the road, and with ranch work besides entertaining her guests so she is very busy.
Roughing it again, I feel soooo bad for you.
