Bridge closed and Pilot

#vanlife .

After restocking in Bozeman Mr Ram had picked several campsites north of Three Forks.  One was at the start of the Missouri, the Missouri Head water.

When we rolled in it was still blistering hot and the few sites available had no shade so we journeyed on.

After many dirt roads we were nearing our destination when we ran into this.

Our GPS was determined to send over that bridge and we had no signal to try Google.

We tried several other roads but they all ended in no trespassing signs.  Then we saw someone stopping at their mailbox and we flagged them down.

They said that bridge has been out for 6 years and it was no accident.  Someone down that road had had enough of the traffic and somehow had it taken out.  Our only choice now was back to I-90 and then up 287.

When we got to Three Forks we were just too tired to go on.  Our Allstay app said nearby was a Pilot, one of those truck stops. There were rows of tractor trailers already parked for the night. We rolled into a spot in the back with an old motorhome and a Toyota Tacoma with a FunFinder trailer. We had a great view of sunset out our back window.

A quick dinner then into our bed.  Despite the idling trucks and highway nearby, we were asleep in minutes and slept till dawn – for free.

  1. Sounds like you are having lots of fun. To you keep a few gallons of spare gas. Sounds like you could get stuck in the middle of no where. Stay in touch and stay safe.

  2. We usually fill up before we are at 1/2 a tank though we did have one time that we wondered if we reach a gas station before we ran out of gas. Maybe carrying gas is a good idea…
