Gibraltar

#vanlife .

We contemplated skipping Gibraltar.  Did we really want to cross an international  border, cross a runway navigate a new bus system, take cable car to tge top fight withe monkeys, walk all the way down just to make our way back across that runway ander the border again?

Yes.Yes we did.

We finished in Huelva a day ahead of schedule so it gave us more time to explore Gibraltar

We found a nice covered spot in the La Linea parking lot and made sure we understood how to pay to retrieve our car.

It was a short walk to the border where a Spanish agent checked and stamped our passports.  Then a short walk to where a British agent glanced at our passports and waved us in.  No stamp required.

Again, something I expected to take the better part of an hour was done in only a couple of minutes.

We bought day passes for the public buses for 9 euros each and we were off to the cable car.  And we didnt need to cross rhe runwsy.  The new tunnel at the east end of the runeay had just been completed. We bought a return trip ticket on the cable car and a pass to the nature preserve.

It was quite a view from the top.

We had been warned about the monkeys… I mean Macaques.  They were just laying about, wandering around and occasionally going for rides.

We visited the Skywalk which  Mark Hamill christened it.  The Macaques also enjoyed the view from there.

The cave was an unexpected treat with a light show.

Leaving the cave is where we a poor choice.  We had a ticket to takes us back down the cable car.  But we had to walk back up to get it.  Several people said ot easier to walk across and down.  They were wrong.

Two km across the rock left us drained and parched.  We saw the siege caves and then tagged a bus back to the center.

Even after lunch we only enough energy to rode the buses and see Europa Point with Africa in the background.

the bus ride back to the border, cudtoms and the drive to our hotrl lets us get to bed (before dark)  and hopefully  recover.

we could see Africa.  It was clear why this spot was so important.

Gibraltar. The gateway of the Mediterranean.
