Someone asked about favorite places and Mrs Ram picked here. With the Northern Black Hills minutes away, beautiful canyon drive, waterfalls and Camping in the National Forest it was an enjoyable place. It was our first boondocking experience. It was a beautiful spot and the person nearby was friendly. (The pond had fish but the fishing tackle was buried too deep so we enjoyed the 2 families of mallards who inhabited the pond. We also walked down to the beaver dam which ‘Grizzly Adams’ – our neighbor across the pond kind of resembled this TV character – mentioned.)
The scenic drive is great and there are a number of falls and hikes. We stopped for a hike to the Roughlock Falls. We also stopped at Wedding Veil Falls beside the road.
Spearfish had a nice downtown with a number of shops, restaurants and an opera house. We struggled to find the Visitors Center despite the fact is on the corner of Main St. in the downtown area. Mr Ram thought they really needed a bigger sign. Mrs Ram though it might be time for him to get new glasses. Kory at the Visitors Center gave us several options for our short stay like the historic fish hatchery and the Termespheres.
The Termesphere is a unique form of 360 degree art that originates here by a local artist named Termes. The artist paints scenes on the outside of globes and when they spin you get a 360 degree view both inside some of the globes and outside, some only outside. Sue at the gallery and shop went over a number of them with us. I think Mrs Ram has some new ideas for painting from here.
They also have Cowboy Mounted Shooting here so I can see why Mrs Ram wants to come back. (Definitely! They might have a decent Senior Womens division!)
