As the Moors expanded on the Iberian peninsula they needed to assert their influence. And what was the best way to do that? Build an new government building and fort. For Granada it was the Alhambra Alcazar.
This Alcazar in Grenada is said to be one of the best ones on Spain. And it has a commanding view.
And succeding rulers, Muslim and Christian, had to add their own Palaces to the Alhambra.
One interesting construction detail was the use of lead plates to allow some movement of the columns in the event of an earthquake.
We has taken a taxi to the gate closest to the Alcazar since Mrs Rams back was still acting up. Still there were lots of inclines and stairs. Mrs Rams back protested more and eventually we made it back to the entrance and a taxi ride back to the hotel.
An evening in the Marisa Hotel’s Turkish Bath with three different temperature pools did help Mrs Rams back.
