We enjoy being free of most of the worries of home ownership. No lawn to mow or snow to shovel. And I laugh when get calls to change my electric company or cut my cable bill.
One issue we do have from time to time is pest control. Usually it’s that stray fly or spider that hitches a ride. A good swing from our swatter usually takes care of the issue.
At Modoc Campground we faced a more formidable foe – ants. We had seen a few wandering near our mat and Mr Ram was starting to think he needed to spray. Then Mrs ram yelled, “Ants!” Poor Paul, Mrs Ram’s Cactus, was covered with little ants. Outside he went, a quick spray and he was cleared of them.
Next we sprayed the shelf where he normally sits. Then we began the search for where they were coming from and how they got in. After several minutes we discovered they were climbing up the electric cord and onto the van. From there, one group went to the roof, down the other side, along the slider rail and in through the door. The others ran along the bottom of the van, up along one of the body seams to the window above the counter and into the van. A healthy does of ant spray brought them all to a stop.
We continued with a a spritz of ant killer on the electric cord and the wheels over the next few day and did not see any more ants.
From now on anyplace we stay for more than a night or two, Mr Ram will give that electric cord a spray just to remind the ants they are not welcome.
