This is it. End of the line. Mile 0 on Route 1. That route snakes it way from here through every state on the eastern seaboard (except Delaware) finally reaching its other end in Fort Kent, Maine.
From Mile 0 we walked the short distance to “Southern Most Point – Continental USA.”
They would have you believe you can get no further south. That is unless you can get onto the Naval Air Station. Google lists the actual southern most point there.
However if islands count (and they must since Key West is an Island), then the southern most point is on Ballast Key. Its about 10.5 miles mostly west but a little bit south of the official southern most point.
All of this “end” and “furthest” talk have gotten us thinking about that other end of Route 1 – Fort Kent, ME. We also pondered if the Keys were the end of Route 1 or the beginning. Then we thought maybe we need visit the other “end” of Route 1 and stop in at Rocks Family Diner.
And lets not talk about the northern most point of the US yet.
