Like other sites the Real (Royal) Alcazar was originally a government building and fortress built in the 900s by the Moors. Many rooms on the lower floor still have the intricate Islamic designs.
Renovations by Spanish Catholic rulers added European ornamentation and paintings.
The tapestries which covered some walls told of conqest and had illustrations of Spain.
And there were lots for opportunities for portraits.

And of course there was a massive garden and underground baths.
